SaveBite: Food Tracker

Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: July 14, 2026

1. Who is responsible

SaveBite is developed and operated by Ümitcan Çengel.

Contact: cengelcan@gmail.com

2. Privacy at a glance

SaveBite is designed to work without an account. Your food items, expiry dates, shopping list, settings, and lifecycle history are stored locally on your device.

  • No advertising or cross-app tracking
  • No analytics SDK
  • No account or cloud synchronization
  • No sale of personal data

3. Information stored on your device

SaveBite stores information you enter or create, including product names, categories, barcodes, expiry dates, storage locations, optional prices, consumed or discarded status, shopping list items, notification preferences, language preference, and onboarding status.

This information remains in the app's local storage and is not sent to the developer. Apple may include app data in device backups according to your device and iCloud settings.

4. Barcode lookup and Open Food Facts

When you scan a barcode, camera processing takes place on your device. SaveBite does not store or upload camera images.

The detected barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts service to request product information such as a product name or category. Like any internet request, Open Food Facts may receive technical connection data such as an IP address. Open Food Facts processes information under its own privacy practices. SaveBite does not receive or retain this technical connection data.

If a lookup fails or you are offline, you can continue with manual entry.

5. Camera and notifications

Camera

Camera access is used only when you choose to scan a barcode. You can deny or revoke camera access in iOS Settings and continue using manual entry.

Notifications

SaveBite uses local notifications for expiry reminders. Notification schedules are created on your device. SaveBite does not use a remote push notification server. You can disable notifications at any time in SaveBite or iOS Settings.

6. Support communication

If you contact support by email, the developer receives your email address and the information you include in your message. This information is used only to respond, troubleshoot, and maintain necessary correspondence. Do not include sensitive personal information in support messages.

7. Retention and deletion

You can edit or delete individual food and shopping list items inside the app. Uninstalling SaveBite removes its local app data from the device, subject to any backups managed by Apple under your settings.

Support emails are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to answer your request, maintain support records, or meet legal obligations. You may request deletion of support correspondence by contacting the email address above.

8. Your choices and rights

You control camera and notification permissions through iOS Settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights regarding personal information contained in support correspondence, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a complaint to a competent data protection authority.

To make a privacy request, email cengelcan@gmail.com.

9. Children

SaveBite is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.

10. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when SaveBite's features or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate channel.
